You do not sit the exams straight away. For a new license, the GDT process is: request, medical check, learner's permit, driving test appointment, then the practical and theory tests. If the learner's permit expires while you are practising, renew it first.

Booking your test
According to the GDT, the appointment for the driving test has to be made through the Ministry of Interior website. Have your learner's permit and Civil ID ready. Check the GDT for any fee that applies to the test.
What the official sample exams look like
The Ministry of Interior publishes sample exams in four categories. Each sample we reviewed has 20 questions and three kinds of question:
- True/false statements about road rules, such as obeying traffic rules or the condition of a vehicle.
- Multiple choice questions on situations, for example when a mobile phone may be used or the minimum age of a child in the front seat.
- Sign recognition: "This sign means…" with several answers. Learn them on our road signs pages.

- Learn the signs. Go through the warning, prohibition and priority signs.
- Read the procedure for your license so there are no surprises on the day.
- Take the free practice test as many times as you like until the answers feel automatic.
